Good website design starts with listening, collecting information and documenting the your needs as the customer. Great design takes it a step further by asking questions to help illuminate other considerations when it comes to building an online presence.
The goal of a designer is to listen, observe, understand, sympathize, empathize, synthesize, and glean insights that enable him or her to ‘make the invisible visible.’ –Hillman Curtis
The Design Process at Mapped Web
Phase 1: Planning
First is the planning phase, when done well, makes the remaining phases go smoothly. During planning requirements are written, a high level design is created, contract agreements are signed, and the website infrastructure is delivered. The more detailed the planning phase the fewer surprises later on.
Phase 2: Design
Second, during the design phase the wireframe for the website is produced and mock-ups are reviewed and approved by customer. At Mapped Web we always conduct a design walk-through. It is a great opportunity for customers to learn about the developers vision and design rationale. During the design walk-through customers get a glimpse of what to expect and this time provides an opportunity for any course correction if needed.
Phase 3: Development
Third, during development the website really begins to take form, the framework is built out, content begins to fill the pages and the site starts to take life! Any necessary test cases are documented and executed.
Phase 4: Launch
3….2….1…. LAUNCH! Final reviews are conducted, a final demonstration for the customer and any final adjustments are made. During the launch phase final testing is completed and the site is published and will be live for the world to view!
Phase 5: Empowerment
The fifth phase, most web design companies rush to conclude a contract with the launch of the website. However, at Mapped Web throughout the entire website development process the goal remains the same… empowering the customer. This means that after the launch our goal is to ensure that customers who want to be able to manage their website are empowered and prepared to do so, but if web updates are not your thing that’s ok too… Mapped Web is here to help.
